WHAT
IS HYPNOTHERAPY?
Most people think that hypnotherapy and hypnosis is some
kind of power trip where a person “takes over” the will of
another and makes them do things they don’t want to do. A
lot of the time when hypnosis is mentioned people will
immediately think about stage shows. This is not what
Hypnotherapy is about at all. I want people to know that
Hypnotherapy, used properly, is nothing like the above.
When a person is having a hypnotherapy consultation they
are in control at all times. They hear all that is going on
around them and they can stop the consultation at any time
during the process if they want to. You cannot work with
someone who is not conscious of what is happening to them,
particularly when the therapy used involved talking and
listening!
Hypnosis
is a waking state, in which the person’s attention is
focused away from his or her surroundings and absorbed by
inner experiences such as feelings, cognitions and
imagery.
HYPNOTHERAPY
IS NOT…
Taking control of someone else’s mind
Having a “power” over someone
Getting people to do things they don’t want to do
Untried or un-tested
Manipulating another person
Spooky!
Not a recognised therapy
Using a kind of magic.
So if it is none of the above, what is Hypnotherapy?
HYPNOTHERAPY
IS…
Safe
Giving a person control of their situation
Tried and tested over many years
Successful
A recognised therapy in many areas including the medical
field
An alternative to taking pills and potions for some people
A therapy that helps people do what they felt they could
not do before
An agreed two way process between client and Hypnotherapist
Hypnotherapy is safe and has no side effects, only positive
results.
